Powell's San Luis Obispo
Our Story
Powell's Sweet Shoppe in San Luis Obispo is the second store for SLO natives Josh, his wife Sonora, and his brother Spencer Goodwin. With the community acceptance of the Paso Robles store, the Goodwin's wanted to share the magic further down the coast.
Sonora was born at Sierra Vista Hospital, Josh and Spencer attended Cal Poly and Cuesta, and all three have lived on the central coast their entire lives. The Goodwin's knew their home town of San Luis Obispo would appreciate the fun of a Powell's Sweet Shoppe.
Josh discovered the original Powell's Sweet Shoppe in Windsor, CA three years ago. Blown away by the experience, he quickly determined he wanted to be a part of this incredible store. Josh was inspired not only by the whimsical store, but also the integration into the local community and events. The "Main Street USA" concept of being a part of a local downtown appealed to all of the Goodwin's.
When the Court Street location became available, the Goodwins knew it was the perfect fit. Powell's Sweet Shoppe San Luis Obispo opened on December 17, 2008. Josh, Sonora and Spencer are excited to add some nostalgic merriment to the downtown they've frequented their entire lives.
Come experience why the Goodwin Family fell in love with Powell's Sweet Shoppe. We endeavor to reflect the fun and memories that San Luis Obispo has provided our family the last 30 years, and surely will provide the next 30 years for our children (twin boys!). Be sure to see the giant wall of PEZ, pick up some gum for bubble gum alley, and enjoy a gelato while walking the farmer's market.
Sincerely,
Josh, Sonora, Spencer, Ralph, and Blake Goodwin
