Powell's Novato
Our Story
Welcome friends,
Rozanna and I (Tom) opened the third Powell's Sweet Shoppe franchise on October 12, 2006 in Novato, California. Nestled in the heart of Old Towne Novato. Our Powell's Sweet Shoppe occupies a registered historic Novato building, that was originally the location of the 1st National Bank of Novato.
Our spacious 2,000 square foot store has the nostalgic feel of an old time sweet shoppe with its long counters, 19 foot high tin ceilings, and the architecture of a 1950's retro bank. We also have an 18 foot high fiberglass giant toy soldier statue that reminds our customers of the same one that used to be in FAO Schwartz in San Francisco, that in itself is worth a visit to see!
Rozanna, our nine year old son Bradley, and myself, live very close to the first Powell's Sweet Shoppe in Windsor, California. Like many others we instantly fell in love with the store and before long we made regular visits for cups of gelato, after an afternoon of playing on the Windsor Towne Green across the street. Rozanna and I were always amazed how busy the store was no matter what day or time of our visits, which made us fantasize about some day owning our own Powell's Sweet Shoppe.
In the winter of 2006 our fantasy became a reality. After exploring locations in Novato, Calistoga, St. Helena, Napa, and Sebastopol, we decided that Novato was the best location because of its reputation for being a great family community and also for the old town charm on Grant Avenue, where we were able to find a location (the type of location a kid could ride his bike to). It's been over two years so far and we couldn't be more pleased with how things are going.
Thank you for spending a minute reading our story and please, when you're in the neighborhood, stop by and visit us for a flash into a candy past. My employees and I would love to make it memorable for you!
Warmest regards,
Tom Pierce
